Is your board truly prepared for the cybersecurity risks that AI and geopolitical disruption are creating right now?
India's enterprises are navigating a threat environment that has qualitatively changed. Geopolitical tensions, AI-driven automation of cyberattacks, and a rapidly expanding regulatory framework (the DPDP Act, RBI's AI guidelines, SEBI's cybersecurity directives and CERT-In mandates) have moved cybersecurity from an IT function to a board-level accountability. Recent operational disruptions, including a marked spike in cyber activity following events such as Operation Sindhoor, have prompted the RBI to require CISO-level reporting directly to boards.
In this session, Mandar Kulkarni, National Security Officer for India and South Asia at Microsoft, will bring a strategic lens to these questions — drawing on a CISO community survey conducted late last year examining whether cybersecurity has genuinely become a boardroom priority, and on his direct engagement with regulators, enterprises and government institutions across India on cyber resilience and responsible AI adoption. The session will navigate three connected challenges: how the Indian threat and regulatory landscape has shifted in the post-AI world; what the convergence of AI and cybersecurity means for organisations at different stages of digital deployment; and what questions CEOs and CFOs should be putting to their CIO and CISO teams today.

Key Takeaways

Whether cybersecurity is truly a boardroom priority in India today and what the evidence from the CISO community actually shows about the gap between stated intent and board-level readiness.

How AI has lowered the cost and scale of cyberattacks, what the real financial exposure of a breach looks like for Indian enterprises, and which new regulations create direct legal accountability for CXOs.

The dual challenge of AI in cybersecurity: securing your AI deployments against emerging threats, and using AI tools to strengthen your organisation's cyber defence.

Three to four questions every CEO and CFO should ask their CIO or CISO in the next board meeting and the answers that indicate genuine preparedness versus compliance theatre.
